How did I miss that?

Every so often I’ll come across a tool that is not in SSC and I’ll wonder how, with over 1600 tools in our database, it could possibly have been overlooked. A few months ago I had one of these moments with Microsoft Word, which was not in the database even though we had every other MS Office tool.

Today, I had this realization again with both Google Maps.

We recently had a discussion here at the San Francisco Nonprofit Tech Center to discuss GIS solutions for nonprofits (more on that later). Looking through the results of the meeting, I decided to verify that all the tools mentioned were listed in SSC. If Google doesn’t have the most tools of any publisher listed in SSC, it’s not far behind the leader, and naturally I assumed that Google Maps would be included, but, to my surprise, it wasn’t. Adding to my embarrassment is the fact that I use Google Maps! Of course, I also use Yahoo Maps, because I frequently get lost when I drive, so having as much information as possible is a good thing for me.

It’s also a good thing for SSC, so if you see something missing, please add it! Even if it’s a mindblowingly obvious tool. There are a few that fall through the cracks, and we love the help finding them.
